Utah Reaction to New Federal Carbon Dioxide Pollution Standards

(Utah Undated)- Some Utahns say the new Federal guidelines limiting Carbon Dioxide emissions from coal-fired power plants will help the environment and public health. Environmentalist generally applaud the rules including Dr Brian Moench with Utah Physicians for a Health Environment:

But critics predicted the regulations could cost $50 billion a year and stymie an already sputtering economic recovery. Mark Compton, President of the Utah Mining Association says “One great economic development advantage we have is our affordable power and this is going to put the affordability and reliability at risk.” Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, accused the president of aligning his administration with “extreme environmentalists” to push what amounts to an “energy tax.”Power Plant
