(Salt Lake City)Utah lawmakers began a 45-day session on Capitol Hill Monday morning. After passing a resolution honor the late house speaker, Becky Lockhart, the Utah House got down to the business of the majority Republicans party: fighting the federal government. “Now is the time to push back at the federal government and take control of Utah’s lands, health care and schools,” said Speaker of the House, Greg Hughes.
Utah republican legislators want to fight the feds, but they have their own program, too. Almost surely they’ll change Utah’s gas tax and they will enact a health care program very different from the federal Obamacare. They will also work to move the prison and to reduce the number of Utah prisoners. Other items that will be part of the aim of the lawmakers is education and air pollution.
