SkyWest Retiring Turbo-Prop Aircraft

September 26, 2014

SkyWest(Salt Lake City/St George/Moab Utah) SkyWest, Inc. has announced on several different occasions, its long rane plans to retire its entire 59 aircraft fleet of Turboprop planes. The regional air carrier, which operates under several banners including Delta Express and United Express and United express, is acquiring new 66 seat regional jet aircraft. The company has said recently the timing of the turboprop retirements are intended to occur in conjunction with deliveries of new regional jet aircraft in order to ensure a smooth transition in existing markets. One big question that remains unanswered, is how the conversion will effect SkyWest’s Essential Air Service markets such as Moab, were airports are not capable of handing the jet service.
