Senate Committee Supports High School Civic Engagement Bill

Utah Capitol(Salt Lake City, UT)  —  The Senate Education Committee is throwing its support behind a bill aimed at improving civic engagement among high school students.  The committee voted unanimously yesterday to recommend the bill for Senate approval.  The proposed law would require all high school students to pass the same test taken by immigrants applying to become naturalized citizens. In other Legislative News, lawmakers are being told though the state has an estimated $638 million budget surplus, look for 2 per cent spending cuts in the budget. Some lawmakers say the exercise may identify some savings and potential efficiencies.
