Rise in Crashes Since New Distracted Driving Law

UHP(Salt Lake City, UT)  —  Utah Highway Patrol says there has been an increase in car crashes since the new distracted driving law went into effect in May.  Sergeant Todd Royce says they’ve seen an increase in crashes caused by distracted driving, and that number may even be higher.

Compared to last year, there have been over 30 more wrecks this year and five more caused by distracted driving.  Utah Highway Patrol says they will begin handing out fines and be giving less warnings, even though a lot of people say they didn’t know about the new law.
