(Salt Lake City, UT) — Governor Gary Herbert says he’s surprised and disappointed by the Supreme Court’s rejection of appeals in cases involving bans on same-sex marriage. Herbert remarked yesterday that he believes the people deserve to have clarity on the issue on the Supreme Court level. Even so, Herbert said that Utah will obey the law.
The Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Salt Lake City also released a statement regarding same-sex marriage. It states: We believe that this fundamental institution will gradually lose its meaning and cease to serve as the ideal relationship between a man and a woman. In our view, this would hurt both our Church and our society.
