Gasoline Tax Increase?

gas pumps(Salt Lake City, UT)  —  With gas prices continuing to fall, state lawmakers could begin looking at raising the gas tax.


University of Utah Economist Natalie Gochnour [[ GOCK-ner ]] says many cities across the state need a tax increase to improve roads.  Utah’s gas tax has remained at 24-and-a-half cents per gallon since 1997.  Gochnour adds that the tax should increase by at least 11-cents-per-gallon to keep up with the times.  So far, 40 cities have asked lawmakers for help with transportation funding.
