John Swallow(SaltLake City, UT)  —  Former Utah attorneys general John Swallow and Mark Shurtleff are both facing criminal charges following their arrests on Tuesday.  Both men are accused of multiple state felonies involving taking bribes and tampering with evidence.

FBI spokeswoman Mary Rook says the investigation continues.  Swallow and Shurtleff were taken into custody at their respective homes yesterday morning without incident.  They’ve both been released on 250-thousand dollars bond.
SaltLake County District Attorney Sim Gill says more charges could be filed against the two men.

Both men walked out of the jail before a throng of TV cameras.   “I absolutely maintain my innocence and this is just the process,” said Swallow. At a news conference Tuesday afternoon at his lawyer’s office, Shurtleff blasted the prosecution as “politically motivated” by Gill.  “He knows he can’t prove these things beyond a reasonable doubt,” Shurtleff said, insisting he would be cleared.
