MOAB, Utah, June 6, 2014 The United States Mint, Friday, launched the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program coin honoring Arches National Park in Utah. The official release occurred Friday Morning at a ceremony at the entrance to the Park.
The coin’s reverse (tails) design depicts Delicate Arch, which is a widely recognizable landmark in Utah and the most famous arch found in the park. The quarter is the 23rd coin in the America the Beautiful Quarters Program, the bureau’s multi-year initiative to honor 56 national parks and other national sites in each state, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories.
“Having lived in Utah, I know from first-hand experience that Delicate Arch in Arches National Park is one of the Earth’s very special geologic wonders and why it was chosen as the design for Utah’s America the Beautiful Quarter,” said United States Mint Deputy Director Richard A. Peterson during the ceremony.
Guest speakers included Spencer J. Cox, lieutenant governor of Utah; Dave Sakrison, mayor of Moab and master of ceremonies for the event; and Kate Cannon, Arches park superintendent.
